Darkside Promotions bring their second 'western' inspired pool event to your screens courtesy of Cuesport TV this weekend.

The first kicks off at 5pm with Andy Appleton v Chun Hao Man in the undercard match. A match that is race-to-21 and being played for £700.

Do not miss out on this event, the only place you can watch any of this action is at Cuesport TV.

Cuesport TV Trial HD Streaming Snooker Videos 23/08/2009
Portland, UK - Web TV channel Cuesport TV have this week released two demo videos in 720p High Definition.

The videos are believed to be the first snooker videos to be streamed in High Definition online. The HD content shows the true capabilities of the platform that the company adopted in April 2009.

The HD videos that have been made available were recorded at the recent TCC Snooker Pro-am in Wales. The tournament is a very small but prestigious snooker event that the channel had exclusive access to. The tournament featured top snooker stars such as Mark Williams, Shaun Murphy, Ryan Day and Matthew Stevens. Stevens will feature in some later HD demo's recorded at the same period.

Managing Director of Cuesport TV Ltd, Pete Williams, commented, "HD video is always something we have wanted to serve but it has taken us a while to reach this stage, the video we have recently made available showcases the capabilities of High Definition as a video-on-demand concept.”

Williams also said, “It is theoretically possible to stream live Internet video in full HD, however, in reality the UK does not yet have the broadband infrastructure to cope with the demands of HD streaming. The VOD content in this particular demo requires a 5 meg Internet connection as a minimum otherwise a lot of buffering occurs. Once broadband across the whole of the UK develops, as it will in the next 5 years, then live streaming of HD video will become a reality. It is in our interest and within our aims to be at the forefront of this technology."

In the first four days of the initial trial the company has seen it's viewing figures rise by an amazing 10%. There are now plans in place for Cuesport TV to capture HD content at all of the major tournaments and matches that the channel has access to and make available both standard and high definition versions to its subscribers.

Live Snooker Coverage Causes Rise in Website Traffic 07/07/2009
June 25 saw web TV channel Cuesport TV start its weekly coverage of the 2009 TCC snooker Pro-am - a tournament featuring Shaun Murphy, Mark Williams, Ryan Day and Matthew Stevens.

Since that time the channel has seen a 5% growth in website visitors, proving that snooker still has a large and enthusiastic following, clamouring for TV coverage.

Although the TCC Pro-am is only available to paid subscribers, those who do not want to subscribe can still access 180 hours worth of video-on-demand absolutely free. This content is all exclusive to the Cuesport TV channel and is served in very high quality Windows Media.

The video is constructed so viewers can watch the coverage in full screen mode without the pixelation and buffering that is so often synonymous with web streaming.

Of the channel's current 22,000 monthly viewers, 60% reside in the United Kingdom. The UK is the self-confessed home of snooker, with the World Championship recently being awarded to Sheffield for a further four years. It therefore comes as no surprise that website-based snooker content is being searched for, and accessed, more regularly by UK viewers.

Cuesport TV managing director Pete Williams said: "It is amazing that we have seen a 5% increase in traffic since we started our coverage of the TCC Pro-am. What this equates to in real terms is an additional 1,000 viewers in a fortnight.

"I think as we get towards the latter stages of this event in August the traffic will grow exponentially, with many of these viewers also turning to our subscription service."

A subscription to Cuesport TV, which gives access to all of the live events plus the latest video-on-demand, is just £6.95 per month. But viewers can subscribe for shorter periods from just £2.90 to test the system out.

Raj 'Hitman' Hundal Faces Tough Test 15/06/2009
June 20th 2009 will see the very much anticipated £1000 per-man 10 ball challenge between Raj 'Hitman' Hundal and Ricardo 'Indiana' Jones.

Raj Hundal, the 2005 World Pool Masters Champion and regular on the International tournament scene, is rarely seen playing in one-on-one challenge matches. A player that is flamboyant and exciting and believes in hitting the break hard will come up against a UK based player he has known for over 10 years.

Ricardo 'Indiana' Jones is the house-pro at top Cambridge pool venue Mickey Flynn's and is regularly seen playing challenge matches against some of Europe's top players. Most recently Ricardo lost a very tight match against Dutchman Alex Lely. This particular money match went hill-hill. Jones, who has also represented the UK in the World Pool Championships in the past is probably regarded as the underdog on paper.

Jones recently commented "...a lot of practice is required because I know I'm gonna have to produce a near faultless display to win...I, like him [Raj Hundal] consider myself part of the old-skool, the way American Pool used to be played with powerful breaks and great shot making."

It is going to be an absolutely cracking match and Ricardo Jones is not a player to be underestimated and Raj will have to work hard if he is to win the match. There is due to be a return match and this is already pencilled in for Hounslow, the home of Raj Hundal, but lets get this one out of the way first.

The match is being played for £1000-per-man and starts at 7pm (UK time) it is a race-to-25 that is expected to go close to the wire - the match is being shown live on pay-per-view by WebTV channel Cuesport TV. You can purchase the match from just £2.95 ($4.75) which will allow you 24 hour access to the channels subscription service.

GB9 Pays Tribute to Paul Medati 28/05/2009

This weekend GB 9 Ball Tour hosts the firstannual Paul Medati Trophy in memory of one our best loved players who sadlypassed away during our first season last year.  Simon D'Vali takes up thestory...

Late last year, we lost one of our own to cancer.

Paul Medati was well known on the professional snooker circuit and remainedprofessional from 1981 up until 1995. Paul turned professional during the'golden age' of snooker when the top players were more like 'A' List stars. Inthe 1970s, Paul won the National Pairs title with snooker stalwart and nowtrick shot champion and commentator, John Virgo. Paul famously (and deservedly)gave Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins a black eye, with Alex maintaining to the pressthat a horse had kicked him only finally admitting it in his authorisedAutobiography years later. Paul managed to reach the top 32 in the Snookerrankings, an incredible achievement given the standard of players around atthat time. Paul finally retired and took a well earned break from the cue sportscene. Years later, he decided to pick up a cue again but this time hisinterest was in the American cue sport of 9 Ball. Paul found he still had hisskill and adapted well to the very different game. He took a host of scalpsover the years including many of the UK's top players.

Paul always had time for the younger players in Salford and did a great deal ofcoaching, making sure he was passing on those skills he had garnered over hislengthy career.

Good friend and fellow professional pool player, Andy Worthington recalls afamous incident with Paul during a BPPPA event when it was double hill betweenthe two players......'It was hill-hill and Paul was amongst the balls, notlooking like missing to take the 9-8 win. Back then, the 4 ball was purple incolour and earlier that week, Paul went to the opticians and picked up his new, tinted lenses to his glasses. By mistake, Paul inadvertently mistook the 5 ballfor the 4 ball, potted it and then realised he had fouled when he saw the 4ball on the table. I cleared the balls for the 9-8 win. Paul maintained it wasthe tint on the glasses that cost him the match!'.

Another account from World 9 Ball Champion, Daryl Peach, is freakishlysimilar.......'We were in Malaga for the Spanish Euro Tour and following theevent there was an 8 ball event. We were sat watching Paul play his match whichwas again hill-hill at 6 all. Paul cleared the table of stripes (or so hethought), potted the 8 ball, went to shake the guys hand and his opponentpointed out that there was still a stripe left on the table. Everyone, including Paul fell about the place laughing, even after his opponent clearedup and took the match. Paul took the loss in his usual pragmatic style, hissense of humour always apparent and didn't let it ruin a great time inSpain....I miss him a great deal'.

Paul was a true professional sports person with a larger than life personality. His kind will never be seen again but we are thankful he took up our chosensport. Much respect, Paul...rest in peace.

--------------------

During the event we will be holding various fund raisingactivities and, at the request of Paul's family, we will donate these toMacmillan Cancer Support.  On behalf of the GB9 Committee we would like tothank you all in advance for your support and hope you have a very enjoyableweekend.

Jayson Shaw Wins CueSport TV £50,000 Series event in Ireland 10/05/2009

The CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series returned over the weekend of 8th-10th May. 84 players from as far away as Catalunya, Spain competed to try and get their hands on the £3500 winners prize, or at least a share of the £10,000 guaranteed prize fund.

A lot of the usual suspects including Simon Ward, the winner of the first event in the Isle of Man, and Jayson Shaw made it through to Sunday unscathed after coming through the winner’s side.

One of the biggest stories of the weekend was that of Craig Marsh. Marsh, the runner-up in the Isle of Man, was beaten by England’s Andy Lucas in the final qualifying round. Lucas himself had come through three matches to qualify for Sunday’s knockout stages.

The last 16 contained some well-known names from the world of Blackball and it also contained the name Stephen Dempsey. Local-boy Dempsey is more well known for his World Rules play and it was actually his first ever tournament under Blackball rules. He ended up being the last Irishman standing and was beaten in the semi-final 10-8 by Jayson Shaw after leading 8-7.

The other semi-final pitted the only Englishman in the tournament, Andy Lucas, against another Scotsman, Paddy McMullen. McMullen is a very slow and deliberate player and takes his time over every shot, this lead to a very long match. Andy was leading throughout only for Paddy to peg him back; the match went 9-9 with Andy breaking. He prevailed and managed to book his spot in the final.

The final was a different matter as Jayson really ran away with it after Andy Lucas continually failed on his break. He had a run of 7 dry breaks during the final, which meant Jayson was able to lift the title and the £3500 prize after a 10-4 victory. Lucas settled for second and no doubt will be pleased with his performance after collecting £1500 for the runner-up spot.

The series continues in June with the English leg from Preston over the weekend of the 26th-28th June. Once again this will be live and exclusive to CueSport TV.

£50,000 Pool Series Returns... 04/05/2009

The richest 8-ball pool tour on the UK and Irish calendars returns this weekend (8th-10th May) with event two of the 2008-09 CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series. This time the event is being held in the amazing Louis Fitzgerald Hotel in Dublin, Ireland.

As the pinnacle of the Blackball pool game, these tournaments each carry a guaranteed £10,000 in prize money with the winner of each leg receiving £3,500. Simon Ward was the winner of event one, way back in October last year, when he defeated fellow Welshman Craig Marsh to win the top prize.

The Welsh players including former EBA World Champion Ben Davies, British Open Champion Tom Cousins as well as the aforementioned Simon Ward and Craig Marsh will be in attendance and as always will be tough to beat.

Another player looking to add to his list of titles is the 2009 EBA World Champion, Scott Ross. Scotsman, Ross lifted the World title in April this year and will be confident of gaining another accolade on the Blackball circuit.

CueSport TV will once again be showing all of the action from the final two days live and exclusive at www.CueSport.tv - it is completely free to view and to do so simply hit the Live Event link on the left hand side of the website.

Watch all of the action on the 9th and 10th May 2009 only on CueSport TV.

About Blackball:

Blackball is a fast-paced and very attacking 8-ball pool game and the CueSport TV £50,000 Pool Series is the ‘pro-tour’ for Blackball players.

Blackball is the only ‘small-ball’ 8-ball game to be recognised by the World Pool Association and in turn the International Olympic Committee. Played on a 7ft x 3.5ft table with slow napped cloth, 2-inch balls and tight ‘snooker-like’ pockets. It really is a test of cueing ability and strategy.
